Another chance
Presented at the second edition of Festival Clarão, Sintra, 2025
By creating this installation, arranged among the various rooms that make up the house, Luísa aims to delve deeper into concepts such as passage, metamorphosis, and transformation. Gaston Bachelard, in his book "Poetics of Space" (1994), states:
"How everything becomes defined in the world of the spirit when an object, a mere door, can present images of hesitation, temptation, desire, security, welcome, and respect. If a person had to count all the doors they have closed and opened, all the doors they would like to reopen, they would have to tell the story of their entire life."
The installation "Another Chance" speaks metaphorically about the weight of opening a door, of creating opportunities, taking risks, and entering an unknown place, or what it means to remain in a safe space. These works belong together. The patterns and digital elements complement each other to create a total form. The space in which the installation is located is shaped like a house. It is now destroyed but was once used. The “Another Chance” installation aims to reflect on the future and on the possibility of rebirth.
The absence of doorways in the space justifies the existence of the works, which are the same size as a door and lined up in the passageway between rooms. They force the viewer to enter and observe each room, making it impossible to move in a straight line between the doors. This translates into an installation where the visitor can immerse themselves and question how the space is occupied and experienced.
